I've connected with this post so much; my mom also died eight years ago (it will be nine next month), and she was also a Latina immigrant. I am a teacher, so when you said she started her own daycare at home, it made me smile because I love teaching.
I also feel the same, protected by her, even though her physical body is no longer here; their love truly transcends death. Sending hugs!
